Photos from Alpha Con 2012

A great time was had by all at the Alpha Con 2012 in Burbank, CA. It was nice to be able to put faces to the names/forum handles of the people I've been talking to for years. Meeting the cast of Space:1999 was awesome as well.

Going to Alphafest in Southern California

If anyone is attending the Alpha:2012, please stop by and visit me at my table in Tabor's Emporium.

Transporter Update:

Jim Key was fired as caster for this project earlier in the year due to extreme unprofessional service. He turned out the be quite a disappointment.

Fortunately, I was able to find Ron Lee of Ron Lee Casting in Burbank, California. His website is http://www.ronleecasting.com/

He was able to complete the Spine, Cage, and Rear Engine frame sections in only 2 weeks. Photos to come after Alpha.

Cheers,

Robert

Here are photos from the resin spine stress test
Using two mini miter cutters from Harbor Freight Tools, I cut the brass tube main runners. The one on the right is doing the cutting, the one one the left is an old one, and simply holds the other end. The cutters are good for brass, but not good for cutting steel rod.

The runners are done in brass, with steel rod inserts.

The test spine is hung from my closet dowel
A 10 pound dumb bell is added

Another 15 for a total of 35

All frame casting will be done by Jim Key of Custom Replicas. His website is http://www.customreplicas.com/index.html
Resin Spine cross sections are now available for $200 USD for a complete set. These are in resin and the builder will need to supply their own brass and steel for the runners.

More photos to follow with results of the stress tests
Rear engine frame sections are now available for preorder. These will be made in metal (zinc). The turn around time will be about 4 weeks. Cost will be $250 USD plus shipping.

Please email me at robert burns (at) yahoo dot com for more information.

Thank you

44 incher Spine section previews

The resin spine section of the 44" frame is currently being molded. Some of the parts have been cast. We'll be doing strength tests with tooling resin. This type of resin is the type that injection molds are made from and are extremely strong.

The 44 inch project rear engine frame progress

Finally, progress in the frame section. The rear engine frame is in rubber and has been cast. I'm meeting with the caster on Saturday to see the parts for myself and to perform strength tests. The parts shown are the rear engine frame forward, and rear engine frame aft
